Edna Hoefer, 102, of La Grange, died Thursday, May 12, 2016. Edna was born in the Oak Hill Community of Fayette County, on Oct. 11, 1913, the daughter of Joseph Hoefer Sr. and Theresia (Zuhn) Hoefer. She and her sister, Emillie (Millie) purchased Edna and Millie’s Café in the late 1960s on Colorado St. in La Grange. The café was very popular for its chicken fried steaks, french fries and onion rings. Millie was the cook and Edna was the waitress. When busy they recruited all the family members. They sold the business in 1979 and retired to the farm. Edna enjoyed spending time on the farm in the country, waitressing at their café, gardening, working with the cattle on the farm and spending time outside. She is survived by sister, Mildred Schulze of Freyburg, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Annie Riehs, Emillie (Millie) Schaefer, Mary Huelsebusch and two infant sisters, Martha and Esther; four brothers: Joe, John, Alfred and Louis Hoefer; three brothers-in-laws: August Riehs, Elo Schaefer and Elton Schulze; and three sisters-in-law: Alma Hoefer, Marie Hoefer and Santa Hoefer. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange. Funeral Services will be held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2016. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery.
