Annie E. (Wied) Schertz

Annie E. (Wied) Schertz, 84, of La Grange, died Friday, May 20, 2016. Annie was born in Eagle Lake on Nov. 26, 1931, the daughter of Jesse A. Wied and Louise (Segeta) Wied. She married Bennie Albert Schertz on July 28, 1952 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville. Annie worked as the first secretary at Farm Bureau of Fayette County and at State Farm Insurance in La Grange. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of La Grange; Altar Society secretary, assistant treasurer and membership chairman for 25 years; Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Annunciation No. 1962 for 31 years; Living Rosary Circle; KJZT; associate member of KJT; Sacred Heart adult choir; a promoter of the Miraculous Medal; Texas Czech Heritage Center; and American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by daughter, Karen Janda and husband, Tommy, of La Grange; two sons: Bennie James Schertz of Bryan, and Allen Ray Schertz and wife, Connie, of El Campo; sister, Mary Louise Hernandez of La Grange; seven grandchildren: Kimberly Guettler and husband, Erich; Kyle Janda and wife, Katie; Allison, Matthew, Zachary, Sheri and Chase Schertz; four great-grandchildren: Sophie Rose Janda; Aaron Michael Guettler, Hunter Blocker and “soon to arrive”, Jacob Ryan Guettler. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bennie Schertz; brother, Jesse Lee Wied; grandparents and numerous other relatives. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 539 E. Pearl St. in La Grange, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 with Rev. Fr. Matthew Kinney officiating. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Altar Society, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic School or Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Annunciation No. 1962 Scholarship Fund.
