By H.H. HOWZE In a special meeting Friday,  after a lengthy closed session, county commissioners took no action on a proposal to buy the former Pioneer Bank building on the square as a new location for the county auditors office.

The county’s lease on the current office at 230 W. Colorado is not being renewed by the owner of the premises, Oeltjen Schovajsa Klesel LLP.

County Judge Ed Janecka said he would call a public hearing on the purchase before taking action to buy the property. The property is currently  being inspected by an agent for the county.

Also Friday, commissioners approved a renewable five-year land lease agreement with J Bar B Transportation for space to build a hanger at the Fayette County Regional Airport to accommodate the company’s aircraft.

Company owner Randy Foster and commissioners ironed out a few details before approving the contract.

Foster was a bit late because he “just flew that airplane out of the pasture,” He was referring to the aircraft put down in a local pasture last week due to a throttle malfunction.
