Leo’s Stop-N-Shop Closed On Charges of Gambling
The site where the first-ever Texas Lotto jackpot winning ticket was sold has been seized by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
After a complaint of illegal gambling, and several weeks of investigation into the activities at Leo’s Stop-N-Shop in Schulenburg, an arrest warrant was issued for the owner, former Schulenburg mayor Leo Kopecky, and a search warrant was issued for the business. The warrants were served on Friday morning at about 9:30 a.m. by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Schulenburg Police Department, at the business, which is located at 1306 Lyons Ave. Kopecky, 65, was arrested and charged with Promotion of Illegal Gambling, a Class A misdemeanor. The business, four eight-liner gaming machines, and approximately $2,700 in US currency were seized by the Sheriff’s Office.
