Picnic Season Underway
By ANDY BEHLEN Every Fathers Day, with stomachs full of cracker-crumb-crusted chicken and sausage, the crowd at the Ammannsville Picnic splits in two.
One group settles under the pecan trees on the north side of the KJT Hall for dancing and music. The other gathers under the shaded canopies around the auction trailer. For reasons of economic lubrication, the beer stand is located there.
This arrangement resembles a sort of class divide in Ammannsville – the dancers (Czechs) on one side of the hall and money counters (Germans) on the other, each contributing to the church coffers in their own way.
A new face conducted the auction this year, Heather Kaspar.
Ennis Czech Boys and Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six provided entertainment at this year’s picnic in Ammannsville.
