Ruby Bernice (Emmrich) Dunk

Ruby Bernice (Emmrich) Dunk, 95, of Warda, died during the early morning hours of Monday, June 27, 2016 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings. Ruby was born on March 18, 1921 in Giddings, the daughter of Fritz A. Emmrich and Minnie Bertha (Werner) Emmrich. She was baptized on Aug. 14, 1921 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top by Rev. A.H. Falkenberg and was confirmed on March 25, 1934 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. G.W. Fischer. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Ruby graduated from Giddings High School in 1939. She was united in marriage to Henry Dunk Jr. on Nov. 17, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. G.W. Fischer. They were blessed with three children, Jerrell, Janet and Joyce. Ruby taught first through fourth grades at Trinity Lutheran School in Fedor in 1938 and taught first through fourth grades at Holy Cross Lutheran School from 1961 until 1968. She also worked as a nurse for Dr. S.W. Mantzel in Giddings. Ruby was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda where she was a charter teacher for the Sunday school program, a charter member of the Ladies Aid and was also a member of the Sewing Circle. She kept the church records before a church secretary was hired and helped to translate the church’s German records into English. Ruby lovingly handmade the baptismal napkins used by the church for baptisms for over 50 years. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her flowers, fishing, baking, sewing and quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Minnie Emmrich; her husband of 61 years, Henry Dunk Jr. and two brothers, Leslie Emmrich and Norfleet Emmrich and his wife, Ruth. Ruby is survived by her three children, Jerrell and Oranell Dunk of Giddings, Janet and Jim Oltmann of Serbin and Joyce and Troy Bise of Serbin; four grandchildren, Curtis and Carie Oltmann of Serbin, Clint and Stacey Oltmann of Edmond, Okla., Colby Oltmann of Serbin and Jarrett and Stephanie Bise of Serbin; four great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Kassi and Kalisa Oltmann, all of Serbin and Everlee Oltmann of Edmond, Okla. as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda with Rev. Dennis Tegtmeier officiating. Burial followed in the Old Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Warda. Memorials may be made Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Faith Lutheran High School, P.O. Box 69, Warda, Texas 78960. Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings was in charge of arrangements.
