Public Notices: You Have a Right to Know

People have a right to know what is going on in their community. Things like junk yards, pig farms and wastewater treatment plants are not what most of us want moving in next to our property. Back in May of this year, we published a legal notice announcing that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality had received an application for a permit to allow the application of wastewater treatment plant sludge from the City of Austin to land along the Colorado River. After reading this notice in The Fayette County Record, the public outcry about the plan got both our state representative, Leighton Schubert and our state senator, Lois Kolkhorst to get involved.
