Funeral services for Richard Skolaut, 83, of Ledbetter, were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. Burial followed in the Ledbetter Cemetery in Ledbetter. Richard Harold Skolaut was born on June 7, 1933 in Houston, the son of Richard Joseph Skolaut and Anastasia Catherine (Hagan) Skolaut. He served in the United States Navy beginning on Sept. 5, 1950 and received his Honorable Discharge on March 18, 1954. Richard was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Dobraski on Jan. 15, 1955 at Assumption Catholic Church in Houston. He was a retired arson investigator having worked with the Houston Fire Department for 20 years. He died the evening of Sunday, Aug. 21 at the Heart Hospital of Austin. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Skolaut; two brothers, Michael and Eugene Skolaut and a sister, Betty Hines. He is survived by his four children, Wanda and her husband, Allen Anderson of Splendora, Douglas and his wife, Judy Skolaut of Lexington, and GarySkolaut of Willis, Barbara Lynn Kelly of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Rocky Anderson, Lacy Cranston, Randy Anderson, Tabitha Sherer, Clay Anderson, Holly Newton, Ashley Skolaut and Abby Skolaut and 18 great-grandchildren and his special friend and companion, Ginger Psencik of Carmine. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings was in charge of arrangements.
