Joy Field, the granddaughter of Devon Boehnke of Muldoon, won a gold medal in the 1500 meter freestyle race at the Pan Pacific Games in Maui, Hawaii on Saturday. She came into the race seeded as number one and managed to win the race even though she was recovering from a stomach bug. Joy had been ill a few days earlier and did not do well in the 400 meter freestyle. But on Saturday, Joy came out and did a great job of swimming her race. For the first half of the race Joy toyed back and forth with second and third place before beginning her push for the lead. As the race went on Joy continued to strengthen her strokes and came on in her normal form of bettering her splits with each lap. Joy finished in 16:14.79. In Hawaii with Joy were her parents, Jack and Beth Field of Magnolia.
