Thumann and Lobos Help Locate Missing Elderly Man
Fayette County’s narcotics team of Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K-9 partner Lobos took a pause from busting drug trafficers to help locate a missing elderly man last Thursday.
Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Sept. 8 at approximately 10:58 am, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a citizen reporting that her elderly father, who suffers from dementia, had walked away from his home in the Vista Ranch area of Fayette County. Family members were unable to locate him.
The caller reported they had been searching for about an hour.
The Sheriffs Office responded immediately with all available deputies and resources along with the Fayette County EMS and the La Grange Fire Department.
The responding units set up a command location near the residence and began searching for the elderly man. Thumann and Lobos arrived on the scene and Lobos immediately set off in search of the man along with a team of several deputies. Lobos followed a scent directly to the victim and located him behind an abandoned 18 wheeler trailer that was parked about 300 yards behind the residence.
The elderly man was located within an hour of the call to the Sheriffs Office. The man was found on the ground and seemed to be suffering from heat related symptoms. Deputies took him to an ambulance, which transported him to the Smithville hospital.
