La Grange vs. Navarro

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Navarro HS in Geronimo

Records: La Grange is 1-1. Navarro is 3-0.

Of Note: This sets up as a great match-up between a stellar La Grange defense vs. a Navarro offense that nobody has been able to stop this season. La Grange has the best statistical defense in 10-4A, by far. The Leps are allowing just 167.5 total yards per game, while not other 10-4A squad is allowing less than 300 yards a game. Colter Siptak has run for 159 yards this year and Jericho Haardt has run for 152 yards. Siptak has thrown for 165 yards. Julio Ramirez in La Grange’s leading receiver with five catches for 94 yards ... Navarro is averaging more than 400 yards of offense per game this season after a 37-21 win over Giddings, a 76-7 win over Marion and a 55-11 win over Gonzales. Jake Wright leads the team in rushing with 248 yards but the Panthers also have an all-state running back in Tanner Law. Wright’s actually a better linebacker than a running back and is a two-time district defensive MVP. Junior quarterback Will Eveld, who has started since he was a freshman, has thrown for 255 yards this season ... Navarro is 31-5 over the last three seasons.

District 10-4A

  • Gonzales 2-1
  • Giddings 2-1
  • La Grange 1-1
  • Columbus 1-1
  • Caldwell 1-2
  • Smithville 0-3

Schulenburg vs. Weimar

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Weimar

Records: Schulenburg is 2-1. Weimar is 3-0.

Of Note: The Shorthorns come into this always interesting rivalry game with some momentum after having won two in a row over Luling and Ganado since their season-opening loss to Hallettsville. Schulenburg’s Josh Brown has run for 238 yards and five touchdowns this season, but has thrown for just 72 yards. The Wildcats have started the season with three consecutive victories over Brazos, St. Michael’s and Luling. Weimar’s had a pretty balanced offense. Sophomore Damien Brown leads the team in rushing with 160 yards, while dual-threat senior quarterback Brody Gall  has run for 159 yards and thrown for 295 yards ... Last season Weimar beat Schulenburg 7-6.

  • Bloomington 0-2

This week’s games: Weimar at Schulenburg; Bloomington at Palacios; Boling at Houston Westbury Christian; Flatonia at Brazos; Ganado at Danbury; Van Velck at East Bernard; Tidehaven at Louise.

Flatonia vs. Brazos

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Brazos HS in Wallis

Records: Both teams are 1-2.

Of Note: Flatonia is looking to get back on the winning track after last week’s 35-21 loss to St. Paul. Senior quarterback Corey Lyons leads the Bulldogs with 342 yards rushing and four touchdowns this season. Lucas Herrera has run for 231 yards and three scores.  Brazos boasts two really strong running backs, in junior tandem Lydon Hardin and Daimon LaFrance, who have run for 446 and 390 yards respectively so far this season. Brazos quarterback Luke Demny, a sophomore, has completed 70-percent of his passes for 250 yards this season. Overall Brazos has averaged 384 yards of offense per game this season, but it has been their defense that has been the problem as they have allowed a District 14-3A-worst 109 points so far this season.

District 15-2A

  • Pettus 2-0
  • Charlotte 2-1
  • Runge 1-2
  • Falls City 1-2

This game marks the first of four consecutive “home” games for the Panthers, who play their home contests at Hohlt Park in Brenham ... After winning their first game of the season over New Braunfels Baptist, Victoria HS has lost its last two games 68-19 to Bryan Home School and 52-33 to San Antonio Sunnybrook.
