Cummings
Norval Lyle Cummings, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and formerly of La Grange, died Sept. 17. 2016. He was born in Gotebo, Okla. on Dec. 3, 1920 and spent the next 95 years in loving service to his country, family, and friends. He proudly served in the United States Navy in WWII and then returned to Texas to raise a family with his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Chapman who preceded him in death. By trade, he was a Welder and had his own business until he began to work in the pipeline industry and even helped lay the Alaska Pipeline. In the community, he served many years as president of the School Board, as a member of the United Methodist Church, of Emmaus Cluster and of Eastern Star. He was a Mason and proud of his 65 years in Masonry. He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. Most of all, Norval will be remembered as a father and friend. His smile was contagious and he made friends wherever he went. He set high standards and his word was all you ever needed. The strong loving Christian home he provided with Dot is exemplified by the legacy he leaves for us all to follow. Daughter, Karen Tindall and husband Bob of Fort Walton Beach, son Ron Cummings of Texas and son Larry Cummings and wife Susan also of Texas, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren survive him. A Celebration of Life will honor Norval at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 at Trinity United Methodist Church on Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, Fla. followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be sent to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
