Oversize Load Creeps Up the Hostyn Hill

A pair of massive dump trucks being hauled through Fayette County hit a snag going up the big hill in Hostyn on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 6. Michael Briseno, operations manager of Irving-based Lindamood Heavy Hauling, said one of the trailers in the convoy blew a tire while going up the hill. Traffic on FM 2436 came to a halt for about 20 minutes as workers changed the tire. After the swap, the Peterbilt rig pulling one of the dump trucks had to crawl up the hill in low gear before waiting cars could pass. Briseno said the big earthmovers came from a mine in Jewett and were being delivered to Eagle Pass. He said their final destination was somewhere in Mexico. According to oversize load permits filed with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, both rigs employed 62 tires apiece to support the weight of the 127-ton Terrex dump trucks, which can haul 72 yards of material each. Briseno said his company specializes in moving large and unusual cargo.
