Genelle “Nellie” Hensel graced us with her vivacious spirit for 86 wonderful years before being blessed with her glorious wings as the Lord called her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 at St. David’s Medical Center ICU in Austin. Born on Oct. 2, 1930 in La Grange, the daughter of the late Herman and Adele Hensel. Nellie spent her entire life living on the family farm in La Grange and was employed in various occupations around the area. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and because of her love for helping others she was actively involved in a lengthy list of community organizations. One of Nellie’s most treasured goals in life was to follow and later look after her older sister, Delois. Her other passions included bowling league, baking goodies, tending to her garden along with the family farm while keeping family and friends entertained with her quirky antics. She could often be found around town keeping up with the latest happenings and checking on how everyone was doing. She is survived by her beloved sister, Delois Herdler of La Grange; nephew, Lawrence Herdler, Jr. of La Grange; niece, Susan Herdler and husband Dan of Houston; three great nephews, Aaron Herdler and wife Heather of Tucker, Kevin Herdler and wife Hope of La Grange, Brandon Herdler and wife Brittany of La Grange; great-great nieces Laney Herdler, Ava Herdler; great-great nephews, Logan Herdler, Kolby Childress, Kory Childress, Kaleb Herdler, Kaiden Herdler, and Kason Herdler, along with a large number of very special extended family members. Funeral Services and Celebration of Life was held Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in La Grange at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the Williams Creek Cemetery in La Grange. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful care provided by the physicians and staff of La Grange Family Health, St. Mark’s Medical Center and especially the ICU of St. David’s Medical Center in Austin.
