Six Sent to Hospital After Wreck Sunday

Six people, one a Schulenburg man, Daniel Anders,  were hospitalized Sunday afternoon after a wreck on US 77 near Swiss Alp. According to Schulenburg Fire Chief Jeff Proske, his department received a call about the wreck around 1:15 p.m. on October 16. The wreck happened near the top of the hill south of Swiss Alp.

Proske said the vehicle driven by Anders was heading north and was turning left onto private property. 

Another vehicle heading south driven by Dena Pena of Edinburg, was driving up the hill when the two vehicles collided.

Firefighters were able to pull the Schulenburg man out of the back window.  Proske said firefighters had to cut the other vehicle apart to extract the female driver.

Fayette County EMS transported both drivers by ambulance, along with four injured passengers in Pena’s vehicle. 

Traffic on US 77 came to a halt for about a half-hour while emergency workers cleared the wreckage.
