County Leaders Talk About New Credit Union, Public Hearing on Tax Proposal

Fayette County employees can now join the Lower Colorado River Authority Credit Union. Credit union representatives Ken Taylor and Betty Mueller made a presentation to Commissioners Court on Monday, Nov. 14.

Commissioners unanimously voted to allow County Judge Ed Janecka to sign a letter of support, authorizing employees to join the credit union.

Taylor said the credit union is a separate entity from the river authority. LCRA employees formed the nonprofit banking institution decades ago. For many years the credit union’s local office was located at Fayette Power Project. Taylor said the power plant’s restricted access prevented others in the community from using the credit union’s services.

The credit union recently rented space and moved its office to the LCRA maintenance building at 104 E. State Hwy. 71 Bypass, which is open to the public. In addition to County employees, Taylor said the credit union is extending a membership invitation to anyone living within 10 miles of the office.
