Julius Clarence “JC” Holubec, 89, formerly of La Grange, passed away peacefully at his home in Georgetown, TX on Thursday, November 17, 2016. JC was born in La Grange, Texas on July 6, 1927, the son of Julius and Sophie Trlicek Holubec. He married Bernice Vacek Kana on October 27, 1978. He completed his education through La Grange ISD and Blinn Jr. College. He served in the US Army from November 1945 at Fort Sam Houston (TX) until June 1947 at Fort Jackson (SC). He retired after 31 years from the Texas Department of Transportation. JC was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher for Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and Holy Name Society. As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for 23 years, JC drove patients to Austin for their treatments. He is survived by his loving family-wife, Bernice; stepson, Charles Kana and wife, Lisa, of Houston; stepdaughters: Carol Hernandez and husband, Kenny, of La Grange; Jane Shepherd and husband, Mark, of Georgetown and Mary Black and husband, Jack, of Columbia, South Carolina; nephews: Robert Holubec and wife, Kathy, of Georgetown; Paul Holubec and wife, Lea, ofAustin; and niece, Ann Holubec Kuschmann and husband, Bill, of New Glarus, Wisconsin. His beloved grandchildren include Kyle Kana and Sarah Jackson, Keith Hernandez and Amy Lynn, Natalie Poulos and Trevor and Kevin Shepherd, and Evan and Alison Black. His beloved great nephews and great nieces include Amber and Brandon Holubec, Lindsey and Thomas Holubec, and Kelli and Jenny Kuschmann. He was preceded in death by his father, Julius A. Holubec; mother, Sophie T. Holubec; brother, Cleo J. Holubec; and stepson, Frank J. Kana Jr. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange, Texas. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 539 E. Pearl St. La Grange, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart School, 545 E. Pearl St., La Grange, TX 78945; Sacred Heart Church, P. O. Box 548, La Grange, TX 78945; or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home, 208 W. Pearl, La Grange, Texas.
