Urban
Thomas James Urban, 68, of La Grange, succumbed to a 6-year battle with cancer at his home surrounded by his loving family on Nov. 24, 2016. A visitation for friends was held on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home from 12 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. The Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 3p.m. Interment followed in the La Grange City Cemetery. Tom was born in La Grange on May 9, 1948 to Lillian andJoe F. Urban. He graduated from La Grange High School in 1967. Tom met the love of his life, Linda Janecka, and married in 1968 and relocated to Houston where they started their family. He worked in the construction field for 45 plus years. He began his career as a sheet rock estimator, moved to foreman, contractor and finished his career as a Supervisor/Superintendent. His passion and attention to detail with construction didn’t end at work, it continued into his personal life as well. Tom built two beautiful homes for his family and with his kind heart helped many other friends and family with his talent and construction knowledge. Tom and his wife, Linda, loved traveling. They vacationed in places like Hawaii, Alaska, Utah, Washington, Oregon, Florida, Arizona, New Mexico and many other stateside vacation spots. Whether time was spent relaxing on a cruise ship, fishing, hunting or special overnight trips on a motorcycle; these special moments brought joy and peace to his life. Other memorable times in his life were spent laughing, playing, and teaching his grandchildren as he delightfully watched them grow. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda; his daughter, Krystal Baker and husband Joe; son, Kevin Urban and wife Kenia; son, Keith Urban and fiancé Ashley; granddaughters, Kendelle and Bree Fagan; and grandsons, Dylan and Kyle Urban; sisters, Agnes Divin, Ginger Meinardus and husband Nolan; and brother, Michael Urban and wife Betty. Family and God were a significant part of Thomas Urban’s Life. It is with great anguish that this has to be written because Tom was an extraordinary husband, wonderful dad and an exceptional grandfather. Family suggests memorials be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange, Texas 78945, or Sacred Heart School in La Grange. Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.
