Dec. 9-13, 1966 A proposition to consolidate the Round Top-Carmine Independent School District with the La Grange Independent School District was soundly defeated in an election that drew 1,080 voters. The proposed merger was approved in the La Grange district with 201 votes for and 133 against. However, it was overwhelmingly defeated in the Round Top-Carmine district by a margin of 144 voting for and 601 votes against. To authorize the consolidation, approval had to be given by a majority of voters in both districts.
