Visiting Judge Says Steinhauser Unbiased in Case

It was the lawyers’ turn to take the stand at the courthouse last Friday.

County attorney Peggy Supak and local private attorney Pamela Giese testified in a hearing on Friday, Dec. 9, over whether to recuse District Judge Jeff Steinhauser from a divorce case that was recently reversed and remanded from the Texas 13th Court of Appeals.

Schulenburg attorney Katrina Packard, who represents the husband in the case, filed the motion to recuse Steinhauser. La Grange attorney Mary Gunn represented the wife. Visiting judge Terry Flenniken of Brenham denied Packard’s motion. Flenniken is a retired district judge from Washington County.

The issue stems from a mediated settlement agreement (MSA) signed by the couple when the divorce began in 2014.
