Crain

Carol Exum Crain of La Grange, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016. Carol was born and raised in Clarksville on May 13, 1934, to Thomas J. and Leon Conine Exum.

She is survived by her husband L. Paul Crain, and daughter Tomi Crain Laigle, son-in-law David L. Laigle, and granddaughter Lauren E. Laigle, all of La Grange; cousin Gayle Parrish of Mingus; niece Sharon Exum Mitchell and Greg Mitchell, nephews James Ricky Exum and Jodi Exum, all of Pecos; and Nelson and Candy Exum of San Francisco, and other great nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her sister Tommie Marie Exum Quarles, and brother-in-law Thurman Quarles of La Grange (formerly of Marshall), and niece Gail Exum Jones of Kingsland, and her only brother, J.B. Exum, of Ruidoso, N.M.

Carol had a long and successful business career. She worked for Thiokol Chemical Corp. in their rocket-manufacturing program, and was an executive and later principal in both local and national environmental services companies. She was very active in community service including past president of the Monument Hill Home Owners Assoc., past Sr. Warden and Vestry Member for St. James Episcopal Church of La Grange, past Regent for the Smith-McMillan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Cradle of Texas chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She enjoyed many years volunteering for Second Chance through St. James.

Carol was diagnosed with a form of Parkinson’s several years ago, a form known as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

The Family would like to recognize the excellent caregivers who were so very helpful, Barbara Clay and Gloria Ellis.

Remembrances may be left to the St. James Endowment Fund, 156 N. Monroe, or the Fayette County Animal Shelter (Gardenia Janssen) both of La Grange.
