Viola Ann (Hollas) Legler, 84, of La Grange, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016. Viola was born in High Hill on Feb. 23, 1932, the daughter of Ernest and Minnie (Adamek) Hollas. She married J.D. Legler on Sept. 25, 1950 in La Salle. Viola was a devoted wife and loving mother. She spent many volunteer hours at Sacred Heart School where her children were students. Her generous spirit continued to serve others as she was a Charter Member of Court Annunciation No. 1962 of Catholic Daughters of America, also serving as Financial Secretary and Trustee. She was Chairman of Funeral Lunches for many years in her parish as well as the Treasurer for the Clerical Endowment Fund. Viola also spent many years as the Purchasing Director for Fayette Memorial Hospital. Her legacy of community spirit continued throughout her retirement years as she delivered Meals on Wheels, drove local cancer patients to Austin, and was involved in the Sacred Heart Altar Society, the Second Chance Emporium, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, AMEN Ministry and Church Women United. She is survived by son, James Legler and wife, Tricia, of San Antonio; daughter, Virginia Higdon and husband, David, of College Station; and brother, Ernest Hollas, Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Weimar; five grandchildren: Diana Wood, Michelle Pickett, Janice Fennell, Katie Artz and Carrie Legler; eight great-grandchildren: Sam Chandler, Tim Chandler, Charlotte Pickett, Luke Pickett, Abby Fennell, Catherine Fennell, Drew Artz and Ben Artz; numerous nieces and nephews as well as other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.D. Legler; son, Mark Legler; and brothers Wilbert Hollas and C.J. Hollas. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 539 E. Pearl St., in La Grange, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery.
