Another State Files Suit in Lottery Scam Against Flatonia Tipton Brothers

The Tipton brothers are in a lotto trouble. New criminal charges filed last week in Wisconsin unveiled a surprising amount of detail about the inner workings of the multi-state lottery scandal allegedly masterminded by Eddie Tipton. Eddie’s brother Tommy Tipton, a former Fayette County Justice of the Peace, begins his own criminal trial in Iowa on Jan. 23. Tommy faces felony charges of ongoing criminal activity in connection with the case against his brother. Both Tipton brothers are currently living in Flatonia.

Background

An Iowa jury convicted Eddie Tipton in July of 2015 on two counts of fraud. Eddie Tipton was the security director for the Iowa-based Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), which administers the Hot Lotto game along with lotteries games in 20 other states. As security director for MUSL, Eddie Tipton helped build and had access to the computers which generate random numbers used in the lottery games. Iowa Attorney General Howard Sand prosecuted the case against Eddie Tipton in 2015. Sand argued that Eddie installed software onto the computers that allowed him to predict the winning lotto numbers on certain days of the year. Sand also presented video evidence purportedly showing Eddie purchasing two Hot Lotto tickets at a QuickTrip store in Des Moines, along with a couple of hot dogs.
