A new class action civil lawsuit filed in connection with the lottery scandal involving Fayette County brothers Eddie and Tommy Tipton could threaten the integrity of lottery games in states across the nation.

Two Des Moines, Iowa law firms, Crawford & Mauro and Dickey & Campbell, filed the lawsuit on January 3. They represent Iowa lottery player Dale Culler and a class potentially comprised of all lottery players who bought tickets in certain lotto games between 2005 and 2013. Culler is suing the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), which administered the number drawing games in over 20 states.

MUSL employed Eddie Tipton as their director of information security prior to allegations that he rigged the computers that select random numbers used in the lottery games. An Iowa jury convicted Eddie on two counts of fraud in 2015 in connection with the lottery scam. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. One of those charges was later dismissed and he remains free pending an appeal of the other charge.

Eddie and his brother Tommy are facing additional criminal charges in multiple states. Tommy is accused of collecting rigged jackpots in Colorado and Oklahoma. Two weeks ago Wisconsin announced criminal charges against Eddie for rigging two jackpots there in 2007 and 2010.
