Gladys (Trlicek) Rohan Heintschel
Gladys (Trlicek) Rohan Heintschel, 93, beloved wife, mother, stepmother, daughter, sister, and aunt died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 with loving family by her side.
Gladys was born in La Grange on Oct. 9, 1923, the daughter of Raymond and Frances (Hayek) Trlicek. She married John F. Rohan on April 28, 1943 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange and was a faithful and loving wife until his death April 2, 2000. She married Warren L. Heintschel on Nov. 17, 2004 and was a faithful and loving wife until his death April 2, 2000.
Gladys was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
She was born into a farming family that moved her to various communities in Texas.
She attended school in Garwood, Rabb’s Prairie, and Indian Creek. Having worked in the fields, around the farm, and in the home, growing up gave her an appreciation for simple pleasures in life. Her parents taught her positive work ethics, loyalty, and dedication which carried over into her adult life and was exhibited at various businesses she worked in and around La Grange. Her latest and most loved work was as an Avon representative, where she was able to travel and meet many people.
Gladys was a devoted Catholic, daughter, wife, mother, and sister. She loved God, family, friends, and country. She enjoyed traveling, Sunday drives, social events, meeting and talking to people, polka music, dancing, gardening, needlework and sewing, hummingbirds, kolaches and cooking. Her homemade vanilla ice cream and angel food cakes were family favorites. Gladys also loved fishing, whether it be in a pond, creek, lake or bay— preferably catching bigger fish than her fishing partners at Port O’Connor.
She is survived by her sister, Bernice Gold, of La Grange; four step children; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, John Rohan; second husband, Warren Heintschel; and son, John David Rohan.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m.
