Roadside Gourmet Food Trailer Opens
La Grange’s street food scene keeps growing. Chef Don Crowe’s Roadside Gourmet trailer opened two weeks ago in Kevin McCourt’s food trailer park on Carroll Street near the Colorado River.
The trailer’s menu takes a nod from Crowe’s East Coast roots with diner favorites like Philly cheesesteaks, Cuban sandwiches and Nathan’s hot dogs. Crowe grew up in southern New Jersey, just a stone’s throw from the cheesesteak meccas of Geno’s and Pat’s in Philadelphia. Crowe also serves breakfast daily. When the Record visited the trailer on Monday, Crowe was offering a pork barbecue sandwich special, but we ordered the cheesesteak with provolone cheese, peppers and onions. It was excellent.
When not tending his food trailer, Crowe serves as the food service manager for Lutherhill Camp.
“I like two things, to cook and to talk to people, and this job lets me do both,” Crowe said.
For those who wear a badge and gun, Crowe offers complimentary coffee to all law enforcement officers.
The trailer is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Breakfast is served from 7 to 9 a.m. Customers can call in orders to (407) 312-5452.
