Filing Deadline Nears for Local Elections

The deadline for mayoral and city council candidates to file for a place on the municipal election ballots is next Friday, Feb. 17. Municipal elections take place on Saturday, May 7.

The candidates who have so far filed in the La Grange election are:

• Mayor - Janet Moerbe (incumbent)
• Ward 2 - John “Honza” Cernosek (incumbent)
• Ward 3 - Bonnie Busch (incumbent)
• Ward 4 - Pat Janca (incumbent)

The Ward 1 place is also up for election this year, but no one has yet filed for that spot. Incumbent Arnold Romberg announced last month that he would not seek re-election.

The candidates who have so far filed in the Schulenburg elections are:

• Mayor - Roger Moellenberndt (incumbent)
• Place 1 - Andrew Stafford, Chip Bubela and Jeannie Mican
• Place 2 - Brenda Rehak (incumbent), Wendy Fietsam and Frank Wick III

Rehak previously served on the Schulenburg Council in the Place 4 seat until her defeat by Harvey Hercik in last year’s election. The Council appointed her to the Place 2 seat following former councilman Douglas Behlen’s resignation last year. 

Place 1 incumbent Rodney Gresser announced last month that he would not seek re-election.
