Meyer
Louis Charles (L.C.) Meyer, 76, died on the morning of Feb. 2, 2017 in Austin. L.C., an only child, was preceded in death by his father, Louis Carl Gerhard Meyer and mother, Anita Fricke Meyer. L.C. was the great grandson of Edward Henkel (on his mother’s side). Edward Henkel was an early Round Top pioneer settler for whom Henkel Square is named. L.C. lived on the original farm that Edward Henkel purchased in 1846 before building a home in Round Top. L.C. is survived by first cousins Travis Meyer, Ferdinand Leo Meyer, Marjorie Wilkerson, Ralph Meyer, Kathleen Neisner, Clemons Venghaus, and Waldine Sopchak. L.C. attended Round Top/ Carmine schools and was confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top in 1956. He lived his entire life in the home in which he was born (on the original farm) and he was self-employed raising a few Hereford cattle and planting a few acres of corn. He was a shy, gentle, simple man who lived alone, never married and stayed to himself and avoided the unnecessary contact with others. He lived a very frugal lifestyle, minded his own business, paid his own way and never relied on welfare. The farthest he ever traveled was to Galveston in 2010. He was particularly close to his third cousin Kenneth Ray and his wife Mary Sue Elliott. Very few people were aware of his abilities and sensitivities. Mary Sue Lindsey, his caregiver and friend extends a very special appreciation to his friends and helpers: employees at Round Top State Bank, Round Top Mercantile, Warrenton Store, Randy Wied, Dr. Robert Youens, Weimar Hospital and Cornerstone Hospital in Austin. Memorials can be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Round Top, Texas 78954 or the charity of your choice.
