Weather to Remember
I’ve experienced a lot of cold, miserable weather over the years. In December 1961, while stationed in Bangor, Maine, I was walking to work in blizzard conditions. The temperature was 35° below zero with a chill index of 80° below. Snow accumulation was about two feet with drifts much higher. My office building was about a mile from the barrack. I finally made it, but I was so cold that I shivered for most of the day. In January 1971, while stationed in Omaha, Nebraska, I was driving to Shreveport, Louisiana, to attend the Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Academy.
