Fight Breaks Out in County Clerk’s Office

An argument between two brothers over a piece of land came to blows Friday afternoon in the Fayette County Clerk’s Office.

The fight spilled out of the Clerk’s office and onto the Courthouse Square, where La Grange Police had to subdue one of the men, 53-year-old Brian Abel Jarmon of Houston, who they say was trying to strangle his 61-year-old brother in the parking lot.

According to La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath, the two brothers and the younger brother’s wife rode together in a red Chevy pickup truck from Houston to La Grange to look up a land deed in the Fayette County Clerk’s Office.

Gilbreath said the family owned some land in Fayette County and an oil company had approached them about leasing the mineral rights on the property.

The fight broke out around 1:45 p.m. in the Clerk’s Office. The brothers were looking at a deed on a computer in the middle room of the Clerk’s office near the document vault. One of the Clerk’s assistants was helping the brothers use the computer. Gilbreath said something in the deed sparked an argument between the brothers.
