Kids Unlimited Gets Some Local Attention

A Houston-based charity with a Fayette County connection has been getting some local support lately.

Kids Unlimited provides support for families with children stricken with cancer. The group hosts a number of family-oriented outings throughout the year to give parents and siblings a chance to bond while fighting cancer. One of those outings is a bass tournament held every October at Fayette Lake.

Terri McPherson, owner of Orsak’s Cafe in Fayetteville, has been working with the group for over a decade.

“About 12 years ago they came into Orsak’s and asked for a donation and for me to come out to the fishing tournament,” McPherson said. “You know me and kids, I had to get involved.”

Since then, McPherson has become the group’s representative and spokesperson for Fayette County.

Other folks in the area have been taking notice. A few recent local donations to the group include $2,800 from the La Grange Methodist Men’s Club, $500 from the Jason Hahn Construction of Fayetteville and $250 from the West End Lions Club in Industry.

Besides the bass tournament in Fayetteville, Kids Unlimited also hosts a catfish tournament in Houston, an offshore fishing tournament out of Freeport, visits to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and trips to watch the Houston Rockets play basketball.

Kids Unlimited also owns the 12.5-acre KU Ranch located near the Houston Medical District, where families enjoy a barbecue cookoff and Christmas party each year.
