Lonnie Ennis Daniels, Jr., 100 years, 3 months and 3 weeks, of La Grange, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 with his daughter by his side. Lonnie was born in Garwood on Oct. 23, 1916, the son of Lonnie and Minnie Bell (Bailey) Daniels. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in Houston. As a young boy, Lonnie would set traps to trap small animals and sell their skins. As he grew older, he had a Houston Post and then a Houston Chronical newspaper route. After he finished high school, he went to work for Hughes Tool Company. As an adult, Lonnie worked for a furniture company called Meyers Faulty Co. and also worked for the Houston baseball team. He worked at many trades as well which included: dairyman, machinist and truck driver. He also owned and operated Daniels Insulation Company for fifty years. With his training as a mechanic, he entered civil service where he traveled 42 states preparing equipment for the war. He was in the Army as well as the Air Force. Lonnie loved to attend fiddler’s contests all over the country. He loved playing dominoes. His greatest enjoyment was farming and making homemade wine. Lonnie enjoyed his garden and his pet dogs were his pride and joy. He is survived by his daughter, Lonnita Daniels of La Grange; son, Lonnie Daniels, III and wife, Doris, of Newton, Ala.; daughter, Victoria Susan Couch and husband, Dale, of Houston; son, Robert Allen Daniels and wife, Jeanne, of Houston; and daughter, Jeanel Daniels; fifteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son; son, Wayne Daniels; grandchild, Herschel L. Johnson, III; sister, Ruby Lillie Paschal; and brother- in-law, Myron Paschal. Memorial services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church with inurnment at Columbus cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N.
