Robert M. Stewart, 88, of La Grange, died Monday, March 6, 2017. Robert was born in Motherwell, Scotland on Oct. 25, 1928, the son of Robert and Alice (McLauchlan) Stewart. He married Helen Davidson on Oct. 3, 1959 in Montreal, Canada. During WWII, he worked as an apprentice in the shipyards on the River Clyde while taking night classes, later emigrating to Canada at the age of 22. Robert began as a Designer in the Pipeline Division of Bechtel Corporation for thirty years, later becoming Design Supervisor. His Bechtel career began in the San Francisco office, then London, Brazil, Houston, Scotland and Fullerton Calif., enabling his family to travel extensively abroad. He also worked in Venezuela for two years before meeting Helen. His many achievements included being an Eagle Scout in Scotland and becoming a Master Gardener. He was also a member of the Lions Club and volunteered at the Bandon Visitors Center. He is survived by his wife, Helen, of 57 years; two daughters, Heather Eilers of Schulenburg, and Mairi Boujemaa and her husband, James, of Bastrop; and four grandchildren, Michelle and Chuck Eilers, Emily and Caleb Boujemaa. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Aston and Walter Stewart, as well as his son-in-law, Charles Eilers Jr. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Scotland. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www.lagrangefunerals.com.
