Gerald “Popsie” Highsmith
Gerald “Popsie” Highsmith, 88, of La Grange died peacefully after a brief illness, Sunday morning, March 19, 2017.
He was born Oct. 8, 1928 in Fayetteville. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and then was a successful commercial builder in Houston for many years. Upon retirement he returned to La Grange. Some of his proudest moments were with his horse racing career and his buddy, Higheasterjet, an All American Futurity winning horse and American Quarter Horse of the Century.
He was a faithful member of the La Grange Church of Christ and an avid domino player.
Leaving behind to cherish Gerald’s memory is his loving son Steve and wife, Joy of Weimar; granddaughters, Stephanie McCall and husband, Tyler of San Antonio; SammyJo Henderson and husband, Ryan of El Paso; along with five greatgranddaughters, Maggie McCall, Avery McCall, Ellie Henderson, Hadley Henderson and Finley Henderson. He also leaves behind his sister, Maurice Naumann.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 25 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ in La Grange.
