Hertha (Meischen) Goebel

Hertha (Meischen) Goebel, 89, of Shelby, died March 19, 2017 at Oak Haven in Industry with family members at her side.

Hertha was born on Nov. 21, 1927 in Skull Creek to Louis and Teresa (Eckhoff) Meischen. She was baptized March 13, 1928 and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on Sept. 8, 1940, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby. Hertha attended school at Skull Creek through the 8th grade. While she was unable to attend high school at that time, she later received her GED on April 15, 1977 with great pride.

On May 26, 1946 she married Bennie Goebel at the Warrenton Lutheran Church. Hertha and Bennie were blessed to spend their entire life in the Shelby community where they farmed and operated their dairy. In 1982, they retired from the dairy business but continued farming. They greatly enjoyed deer hunting, crappie fishing, and traveling. Bennie and Hertha felt very blessed and enjoyed their lives to the fullest.

Hertha loved spending time cooking, most of which she raised in her garden. When not cooking, she was baking bread, cinnamon rolls, pies, red velvet cakes, and cookies all of which were enjoyed by many. Her grandchildren will forever talk about her “goodies.”

Hertha was very active in the community as well, serving as Hermann Sons President for many years and as Shelby Cemetery Secretary and Treasurer. She was also very active in her church.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Carol and Ron Goehring of Round Top; Glenda and David Luedeker of Navasota; Gary and Joan Goebel of Carmine; and Rodney and Diann Goebel of Shelby. Hertha was very proud of her grandchildren as well which include Blake and Christie Goehring; Laura and Chad Hesters; Stacy and Clint Eilers; Luke and LeAnn Luedeker; Gretchen and Brian Peterson; Clay and Jamie Goehring; Garrison and Micah Goebel; Lyle and Mary Luedeker; Haley and Andy Glueck; and Reese and fiancée Kyla Cmajdalka as well as numerous great-grandchildren: Ryker and Kannyn Goehring; Kate, Jill, and Tess Eilers; Morgan and Grady Hesters; Ainsley and Adler Goehring; Hope and Jack Luedeker; William and Lane Luedeker; Logan, Will, and Louise Glueck, Brock and Mason Peterson; and Duncan and Ryan Goebel. She is also survived by brother-in-law Dennis Rudloff.

Hertha is preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Goebel, parents, seven sisters, three brothers, eight brothers-in-law, and four sisters-in-law.

The family would like to extend a very special “thank you” to all of Hertha’s care-givers: Jackie (deceased), Griselda, Nancy, Rainey, Cheryl, and Clara.
