Louis Edward Barta, 88, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Louis was born on May 10, 1928 in Praha, the son of the late Frank and Henrietta Barta. He resided his entire life in Praha and married Georgiann (Pavlicek) Barta on Oct. 2, 1950. During the Korean conflict, Louis served overseas as an Army Medic and went on to complete his twenty-year military career as an Army Reservist. In his early life, he owned and operated his own business, the Barta Floor Shop, where he built and installed custom cabinetry, as well as soldand installed all types of flooring. He ended his professional career working for the United States Postal Service for over 25 years and retired at the age of 72. In the local community, he was active as a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He was a strong supporter of Catholic education serving as a member of the School Board and President of the PTC for Bishop Forest High School. He also served his home parish of St. Mary’s in Praha, as the chairman of their annual fundraising picnic for many years. Louis is survived by his wife of 66 years, Georgiann; three sons, Kenneth and his wife, Louisa of Austin; Randall and his wife Carol of Praha; Stanley and his wife, Peggy of Yoakum; two daughters, Susan Ivey of Round Rock; and Pamela Moreno and her husband, Ruben of San Antonio; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremy Barta. Visitation was held Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 8 a.m. with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Flatonia. Funeral Mass was held Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Praha at 10 a.m. officiated by Father Gabriel Maison. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Praha. Pallbearers were his grandsons Brian Hartfield, Rodney Hartfield, Daniel Hartfield, Joshua Barta, Jason Moreno and Chris Inman Family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Restoration Fund.
