Council Officially Approves Splashpad Project Funding

By the summer of 2018, La Grange kids should be enjoying a new splashpad water playground adjacent to the Randolph Rec. Center on Pearl Street.

The plan (two years in the making) for a splashpad, playground, restrooms and other park features cleared its final hurdle at Monday’s city council meeting.

Council members approved a plan to request an additional $200,000 in funding from the La Grange Economic Development Corporation, which had already pledged $200,000 to the project.

That $400,000 from the EDC will be combined with $400,000 from the city’s capital improvement fund to cover the expenses of the project.

In design plans shown to council Monday, the splashpad (which would use recirculated water) would include six water play features. There would be adjacent bathrooms/changing areas as well as handicapped-accessible playground  equipment, several benches, a community garden and small pavilion as well as additional parking for the Rec. Center.

City manager Shawn Raborn said the city would serve as the general contractor in the project and he felt confident the final cost of the project would come in under the $800,000 budgeted.

Here’s some other action from Monday’s meeting:
