County Nixs Deal With Architect of EMS Headquarters

County Commissioners parted ways with College Station-based BRW Architects, the firm initially selected to design the new Fayette County EMS Headquarters. Commissioners voted unanimously to reject a contract with BRW Architects at a special meeting held on Monday, April 3.

BRW’s Ray Holliday represented the firm at the meeting. Commissioners could not reach an agreement with Holliday on the building’s cost and the fees BRW charged for their services.

The contract Holliday presented at Monday’s meeting called for a 5,000 sq. ft. building with a total project cost of $1.6 million. Commissioners previously set the construction budget at $1.4 million for a building around 9,000 sq. ft. or less. Holliday said the $1.6 million figure in the contract was a mistake and agreed to change it to $1.4 million. As for the size, Holliday said the Commissioners’ budget could not cover the estimated construction costs of a building much larger than 5,000 sq. ft. with the amenities requested. His estimates amounted to a cost of $280 per sq. ft. Under the Commissioners’ construction budget, the price per sq. ft. would amount to around $155.
