We’ve Got a Local on National Security Council

A year ago he was on Dancing With The Stars and hanging out at the Stone Cellar in Round Top, but Wednesday President Donald Trump appointed Energy Secretary Rick Perry to a place on the National Security Council. Texas’ former governor and two-time presidential candidate built a home near Round Top last year.

As Energy Secretary, Perry was already charged with riding herd on the nation’s nuclear stockpile.  The new appointment means he is involved with making decisions about when and if those weapons might be used.

Trump made room for Perry by dumping controversial former Breitbart editor Steve Bannon. Bannon was criticized by defense professionals, who said a political operative had no place on the council.
