Henry Herbert Bernshausen, 69, of Baytown, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Baytown. He was born in Fayetteville on July 3, 1947 to his late parents, Henry Bernshausen and Iola (Schmidt) Bernshausen. He attended school in Fayetteville until his family moved to Baytown in 1957. He had been a resident of Baytown for the last 59 years. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1965. He was drafted into the Army in 1966. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, a retired sheet metal worker from DuPont of 34 years and was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. In the Army he was part of the 25th MP Unit and he faithfully attended all their reunions. His favorite music was Merle Haggard and he enjoyed listening to it as often as possible. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gertrude Hill and her husband Jack Hill; brother-in-law, Dale Harper; sister-in-law, Sandra Harp and brother-in-law, Doug Taylor. Also, his grandparents Ervin and Emma (Gerdes) Schmidt of Fayetteville and Richard and Emma (Kuecker) Bernshausen of the Latium Community. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Bernshausen; son, Henry Lee Bernshausen and his wife Shaunna; granddaughters, Ashlyn and Cera Bernshausen, all of Baytown; sisters, Virginia Fritsch and her husband Adrian of Columbus, Violet Krenek and her husband Robert, Sr. of Fayetteville, Stephine Zucha and her husband James of Baytown, Melba Reisner and her husband Anton of Sealy, and Judy Catasein and her husband Jay of Atlanta, Ga; sisters-in-law, Gretchen Harp, Juanita Taylor and Sarah McLelland and her husband, Richard; brother-in-law, Eddie Harp and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts cousins, and many, many friends.. Serving as pallbearers were: John Feist, Roger Harp, Chris Zucha, Derek Fritsch, Bobby Krenek, Brendan Krenek, and Louis Reznicek. The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Navarre Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 3, 2017 at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Clements and Henry Lee Bernshausen officiating. Burial followed at Memory Gardens Cemetary off of Garth Road in Baytown. Navarre Funeral Home of Baytown was in charge of arrangements.
