Joyce Lavern Davis, 83, of Muldoon, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in Austin. Joyce was born in Athens, Texas on July 9, 1933, the daughter of Everett Carl and Estelle (Vaughn) Higdon. She married Lawrence Davis on Oct. 14, 1960 in La Grange. Joyce was a loving homemaker most of her life raising her children and taking care of their home. She did work outside of her home as a housekeeper in various nursing homes for more than twelve years. Joyce is survived by four daughters: Patricia Ann and husband, Clarence Malota, of Muldoon; Ruby Ann and husband, Charles Holman, of New Caney; Mary Joyce Murdock; Linda Sue Cloud, both of Muldoon; two sons: Roy Glen Davis, of Muldoon; Lawrence Edward and wife, Toni Davis, of Victoria; one sister: Jessie Lee and husband, Robert Gerjes, of Edna; four brothers Johnnie and wife, Janie Higdon, of Onalaska; James and wife, Lillie Higdon, of Garland; Everett Carl and wife, Margie Higdon, of Marble Falls; Will Jay and wife,Delores Higdon, of Liberty Hill; 23 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Loys Lee Davis and second husband, Lawrence Davis; son, Loys Lee Davis Jr.; daughter, Betty Lou Halbardier; son, Donald Gene Davis; daughter, Jessie Lavern Davis; four siblings: Elven Otis Higdon, Mary Valchar, Betty Callen and Patricia Vaughn. Visitation was held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home, 208 W. Pearl St. in La Grange. The family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Burial followed at Byler Cemetery in Muldoon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
