Jeremy D. Burns, 37, died April 20, 2017, at Seton Medical Center in Austin. Jeremy was born on Feb. 22, 1980 in Dimmitt to Jim and Sandy Burns. He was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, which played a role in his life, but never defined the man he became. After attending college on the east coast, Jeremy returned to central Texas where he started and managed many successful businesses and partnerships, often with others suffering from chronic illness. Jeremy married Heidi Leer in 2005 after an extended relationship, and spent his remaining years attempting to keep her wrangled in the right direction. Jeremy was a devoted and loving father to Matt and Jenny, whom he thought of as his own children. Jeremy will be greatly missed for his wisdom, wit, generosity, and love of life. Jeremy is survived by his wife, Heidi Burns; step-daughter, Jenny Nordstrom and stepson Matt Nordstrom, of Austin; his father, Jim Burns and stepmother, Debbie, of Alice; stepbrother, Nick Carter, and stepsister, Heather Carter of Corpus Christi; and his mother, Sandy Mapps and brother JJ Burns of Dimmitt. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jesse Burns of Flatonia, and his dearest friends, Chris Leake of Ennis, Robert John Leer of La Grange, Wade Roensch of Schulenburg, and Julius ‘JW’ Sughrue of Plano. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 126 Plum Church Road, in Plum, on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Deacon John McCourt will officiate the ceremony. A meal will be provided immediately following the service at the Colovista Country Club, 100 Country Club Drive, in Bastrop. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jeremy’s incredible life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Helping Hands Food Bank, payable to ASA, P.O. Box 4874, Austin, Texas 78765.
