Scharlett (Haynes) Kay, 85, of Muldoon, died Thursday, April 27, 2017 at her residence. Scharlett was born in Houston on Nov. 21, 1931, the daughter of James and Irene (Roper) Haynes. She married James Conrad Kay on Aug. 19, 1950 in Houston. She was a supervisor for the United States Postal Service for 32 years in Houston. Scharlett enjoyed bowling, art and traveling. She was a member of the GWRRA - Gold Wing Road Riders Association and the Red Hat Society. Scharlett is survived by her husband, James, of 66 years; five sons: Blayne Kay and wife, Karen, of Baytown; Craig Kay and wife, Sherry, of Rosanky; Carroll Kay and wife, Patricia, of Porter; Ricky Kay and wife, Brenda, of Humble; and Donald Kay, of Muldoon; daughter-in- law, Katharine Kay of La Grange; 23 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sons: Larry and Keith Kay; granddaughter, Amy Kay; and sister, Barbara Rushing. Visitation was held on Monday, May 1, 2017 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Interment will follow at Pitman Cemetery in Muldoon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange, Texas 78945 or a charity of one’s choice.
