Kocian, Fietsam, Bubela Win Schulenburg Races

Otto Kocian will be the new mayor of Schulenburg. He won the mayoral election against incumbent Roger Moellenberndt by more than 200 votes.

“I’d like to thank the people for using their voice and their vote,” Kocian said in an interview on Sunday. “We’re in a position to start making a difference.”

Kocian said he campaigned door-to-door on a platform of transparency and accountability. Kocian worked 37 years with Texas Department of Transportation before retiring in 2002. He served his last 10 years as the agency’s Fayette County Supervisor. He is 70 years old and is a life-long resident of Schulenburg.

In the other city elections, Chip Bubela easily won the race for Alderman Place 1 with 269 votes. None of his three opponents collected more than 87 votes.

Wendy Fietsam won a close race for Alderman Place 2 against Frank Wick III and incumbent Brenda Rehak. Just 53 votes separated Fietsam and Wick. The incumbent Rehak collected 61 votes.
