Remember When?

May 16-19, 1967

La Grange Postmaster W.P. Freytag asked rural patrons to be on the lookout for June livestock survey cards, which postal carriers were to leave in a sample number of boxes along their routes. The USDA planned to use the information collected to estimate livestock and poultry holdings in Fayette County. Carriers assisting with the survey were: Daniel F. Freytag, Rt. 1; Leslie Blume, Rt. 2; W.C. Tielsch, Rt. 3; and W.P. Glaiser, Rt. 4.

Fayetteville Rural High School was planning an open house to show the community the results of a construction and remodeling program in which the school lunchroom had been completely renovated at a cost of $2,000. At a total price tag of $14,000, the high school restrooms for boys and girls had been enlarged by 100%, a coach’s office had been added, and the Home Economics kitchen was enlarged by 100%. According to Superintendent Nelson Kieke, a new air-conditioned elementary school was constructed to house grades one through eight at a cost of $115,100. (High school social studies classes were to be taught in the new building, as well.)
