Esther “Jewel” Shimek, 81,
Esther “Jewel” Shimek, 81, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, May 27, 2017. Jewel was born in Saint Stevens, Ala. on Oct. 6, 1935, the daughter of George W. Sullivan and Ida (Poole) Sullivan. She married Larry Shimek on Aug. 14, 1971 in Hugo, Okla. She worked in the banking business for many years and then managed A-Prime Storage for the last twenty years. Jewel enjoyed meeting people which she was able to with the jobs she held. Jewel was a member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and traveling. She is survived by her husband, Larry, of 45 years; two daughters: Debbie Wolff and husband, Allen, of Waldeck; Shawn Fisher of Woodbridge, Virginia; a son, Barney Covington of Chatum, Alabama and grandson, Justin Shimek of Fayetteville, Texas; several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Monica Forrest; brother, George W. Sullivan, Jr.; four sisters: Barbara Catoe, Vernice Bishop, Lola Mae Lane and Willie Mae Anderson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 12 to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home, 208 W. Pearl St. in La Grange, on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Hostyn Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, Florida 33607 or a charity of one’s choice.
