Remember When?
June 2-6, 1967
Captain Floyd Kaase became Schulenburg’s first Vietnam War casualty when he died of injuries received when his helicopter was shot down by enemy gunfire. Attached to the 199th Assault Helicopter Company, Captain Kaase was serving as a co-pilot of a chopper rescuing injured soldiers. After the chopper was hit and ditched, Captain Kaase was rescued and taken to a hospital, but did not survive. The son of the late John and Ella Kaase, he was survived by his wife and daughter, both of Houston, and four half-sisters and three half-brothers in Fayette County. Memorial services were planned at Zion Lutheran Church in Schulenburg with burial to follow at a Houston military cemetery.
