Walmart Thief Walks Out with $3,000 in Electronics
La Grange Police are looking for a suspect who walked out of the La Grange Walmart with $3,000 in electronics merchandise sometime before 4 a.m. on June 6.
According to La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath, Walmart did not even know about the theft until police contacted them.
Gilbreath said officer David Mohr was patroling the west side of La Grange in the early morning hours on Tuesday, June 6, when he noticed a suspicious plastic container behind Hampton Inn. Mohr investigated the container and inside found numerous security sensors that come from Walmart. The sensors activate alarms inside the store whenever someone tries walking out without paying.
Mohr contacted Walmart to report the devices. Walmart then checked their inventory and discovered $3,000 in electronics merchandise missing from shelves.
Gilbreath said the plastic container was also stolen from Walmart. Gilbreath said he believes the thief placed the container inside a shopping cart and placed the electronics items inside the container, which allowed the thief to walk out of the store without raising suspicion.
Anyone with information about this crime should call La Grange police at (979) 968-5806 or Fayette County Crimestoppers at 1-800-272-TIPS.
