June Marie Wheeler
June Marie Wheeler, 87, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 29, 2017 surrounded by her family. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 3 at Belmore Baptist Church with Dr. Toby Irwin officiating. Burial will followed at Eola Cemetery. The family welcomed visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at Johnson Funeral Home. June was born June 5, 1930 to Julius and Leona Dunn Helwig. She married James Wheeler on Sept. 11, 1947 in San Angelo. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage. June was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a homemaker and supported all of the activities of her children and grandchildren. A member of Belmore Baptist Church for 61 years, June shared her love for the Lord and served as a Sunday School teacher, WMU president, and supported missions work through the church and in the community. She was also Girl Scout troop leader and had many talents including cooking, quilting, sewing, painting and drawing. She sewed beautiful dresses for her daughters and granddaughters and made a quilt for each of her grandchildren upon graduation. She and Jimmie also enjoyed travelling Texas and the U.S. June was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie Wheeler, her brother Bill Helwig, her son-in-law Jimmie Gifford II, and many cherished family members and friends. She is survived by her daughters Julia Paske and Susan Wilson of Lamesa, and Peggy Gifford of La Grange; sisters-in-law June Helwig of San Angelo and Imogene Jackson and husband Charles of Big Lake; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Amanda Gifford McAleer and husband Keith of Leander, and their children Tadhg, Eamon and Tallula; Lyndy Stone and husband Jerry Don of San Angelo and their children Brady and Barrett; Jimmie Charles Gifford III of Austin; Katie Buxkemper and husband Chad of Lubbock and their daughter Emma; Josh Wilson and wife Sharon of Lubbock; Shawn Gifford and wife Breklyn of San Antonio; and Melanie Wilson of Lamesa; and many nieces and nephews.
