Mother Suing Fayette Co. for $6 Million in Damages After Son’s Death in Jail Here

The mother of a truck driver who died at the Fayette County Jail in 2014 is suing the County for the wrongful death of her son. The case goes to jury trial on Monday, Aug. 21, in the Southern Texas Federal District Court in Houston.

The mother seeks more than $6 million in damages. By comparison, that’s more than what the County plans to spend next year on the Sheriff’s Office and EMS service combined.

On June 4, 2014, Chad Allen Fieweger, a 22-year-old truck driver from Florence, Arizona, was hauling a load of lumber on Interstate 10 when he wrecked his 18-wheeler near Engle.

The wreck happened around 10 a.m. Fieweger was injured. Fayette County EMS transported him to Columbus Community Hospital, where the doctors identified injuries to his shoulder and jaw.
